nextra St Ives Celebrates 25 Years in Business!

Back in 1992, when his daughters were at school, Bill Scott purchased the St Ives Village Newsagency and shortly after joined the Nextra Group to become one of the first nextra Newsagencies in the country (now over 300 strong). This month nextra St Ives will celebrate 25 years under Bill’s ownership. His daughters, Emma Thurlow and Karen Scott, are now the driving force of the business, along with 11 wonderful staff, two of whom (Nancy and Pat) have been with them the entire time!
“Twenty-Five years is a massive achievement for our small business!” said Emma, who is excited to be celebrating this significant milestone. “We have so many wonderful, loyal customers who have shopped with us for many years along with new faces every day who we always welcome with a smile and personal service.”
“The traditional newsagent has certainly changed over the last 25 years and we have had to adapt to that”, said Emma. “We still have all the items you expect to see such as newspapers, magazines, greeting cards, wrap, stationery, and of course your NSW Lotteries tickets, but we also now have an extensive selection of gifts, art and craft supplies and an ever-expanding party supplies section, along with more premium gift cards such as the remarkable Papyrus range.”
Over the years, nextra St Ives has been lucky too. They have sold a ticket that won $4 million in Oz Lotto, a ticket that won over $655,000 in Lotto, two Instant Scratch-it top prize tickets and six 1st prizes in the $2 Super Jackpot worth $100,000 each! On top of this, three lucky customers won a share in a Super Saturday $18 million 1st division prize after purchasing a syndicate ticket set up by Nextra stores. “We regularly pay out more than $10,000 in minor prizes over a week,” said Emma, “but we haven’t had a big one in a while so we must be due!”
